How to explain the significance of having a video script or storyboard to an employer who doesn’t know what it is.

I would explain to an employer that a video script or storyboard is the plan before the production. It shows what will be said, what will appear on screen, how long each part should take, and what action the audience should take at the end. Without it, the team may still create a video, but the video may feel scattered.
A script helps protect time and money. If the message is unclear before filming, the team may waste hours recording scenes that do not support the goal. A storyboard also helps people see the idea before production begins. This is useful because not everyone imagines visuals the same way. One person may picture a serious corporate video, while another person may picture something fast and social media friendly.
I would tell the employer that the script is not there to make the video stiff. It is there to make the video intentional. It helps the team agree on the message, audience, visuals, and call to action before anyone presses record.
