My Social Media Do-Over: What I Learned and What I'd Fix

  • 1 min read

While creating my social media posts for the SkillBridge Youth video, I learned that writing for social media is harder than it looks. A caption may be short, but it still needs strategy. It has to introduce the brand, explain the video, invite action, and fit the platform. That is a lot to do in a small space.

If I could go back, I would spend more time thinking about the first line of each post. The first line works like a hook. If it does not catch attention, many people will keep scrolling. I would also make the call to action even more direct. Instead of only saying, “Start today,” I would ask people to comment with the exact skill they want to practice.

I also learned that each platform has its own style. A post that works on Instagram may not feel natural on TikTok. Next time, I would not just copy the same caption across platforms. I would keep the same message but adjust the wording, hashtags, and tone for each audience.
