Being Online Is Not the Same as Being Productive Online
- 1 min read
One thing I have been thinking about is the difference between being online and being productive online. Those two things are not the same. I can spend three hours online and still have nothing useful to show for it. I can also spend twenty focused minutes online and learn something that helps me.
This connects with the message of my SkillBridge Youth video: one skill, seven days. I like that idea because it does not shame people for using their phones. Instead, it asks a better question: What is my phone helping me build?
That question is uncomfortable, but useful. If my phone is only helping me compare, complain, or waste time, then I need to change how I use it. But if I use it to learn design, data, writing, coding, editing, or communication, then the same phone becomes a tool.
I do not think productivity means every minute must be serious. Rest is important too. But I do think I should be more intentional. My phone should not always decide what gets my attention. Sometimes I need to decide first.
